HELLENIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION CHAIR IN HELLENIC STUDIES MODERN GREEK HISTORY
The Department of History (Faculty of Arts) invites applications for the Hellenic Heritage Foundation Chair in Hellenic Studies at the rank of Associate Professor. The position will commence 1 July 2008. All positions at York University are subject to budgetary approval.
The successful candidate must be an established scholar in Modern Greek History with specialization in one of three areas: political history, social history, or international relations. Required qualifications include a PhD in History, or equivalent, and an ongoing programme of research and publication in the area of specialization. The successful candidate must have a strong record of achievement in research, teaching, and supervision at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and is therefore required to be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The Chair holder is expected to provide leadership in the Hellenic Studies programme and to contribute to the Graduate Programme in History. The ability to develop links with the broader Hellenic Canadian community will be considered an asset. Fluency in Modern Greek at the near native level and in English is required. The candidate will be appointed to the Department of History in the Faculty of Arts and may be affiliated with the Canadian Centre for German and European Studies. Courses taught will also be part of the European Studies program. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.

We seek a vibrant colleague to revive a program in Modern Greek language and culture. Ph.D. preferred in an appropriate field. The successful candidate will teach full-time (3 courses each semester), advise students, and have an opportunity to develop new courses in Modern Greek culture. Near-native fluency and evidence of effective teaching experience at the university level is required. This is a non-tenure track position and as such does not require research, but we welcome candidates with a scholarly program, and such a candidate would have access to the same research support as tenure-track faculty. The lecturer will be expected to interact with the local Greek community and to investigate study-abroad options for interested students. Salary, to be determined, will depend on qualifications and experience. The appointment begins in Fall 2008.

The Faculty of Arts at McGill University invites applications for the Phrixos B. Papachristidis Chair in Modern Greek Studies. This is a visiting position, with an appointment of up to three years. The Chair is open with respect to discipline, but preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching interests in modern Greek language and literature. Candidates with other interests in the humanities and social sciences are also encouraged to apply. Fluency in modern Greek is a requirement for the position. The Chair holder will have a mandate to cooperate in the development of a Minor degree in Modern Greek Studies and to collaborate in the development of Montreal's Interuniversity Centre for Neo-Hellenic Studies. The appointment is a full-time, permanent position under private law.

The University proposes to appoint a part-time Instructor in Modern Greek in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages. The successful candidate will be required to give up to ten hours language instruction in each of the ten weeks of the University's three terms each year. Applicants should be fluent in Modern Greek to native-speaker level, and have recent cultural immersion. They should have a good command of English, and experience of teaching Modern Greek to non-native speakers at all levels, including ab initio students. FULL-TIME LECTURER: MODERN GREEK STUDIES
The Center for European Studies (CES) at the University of Florida is conducting a search for a full-time non-tenure track Lecturer in Modern Greek Studies to begin Fall 2007. The field of specialization is open and can include any aspect of contemporary Greek language, literature, culture, history, or politics. Ph.D. in a relevant subject area, experience teaching Modern Greek language, and native or near-native fluency in Modern Greek and English are required. Successful finalists will have taught courses in contemporary Greek Studies including aspects of EU-Greek relations and have experience working in an interdisciplinary environment.
Primary duties will include teaching first and/or second year Modern Greek language and field specific area studies courses, including a course on Greece and the EU, in addition to assisting in the continued growth of the Modern Greek Studies Program at UF. Program building tasks may include community outreach activities, collaboration with the existing on-campus Greek and Greek-American student organizations, and investigating study abroad options.

Since opening its doors in 1992, the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center in Chicago has become the nation's foremost center of Hellenic history, culture and the arts, where the public can explore the cultural heritage of the Greek immigrant experience in America and examine the influence of Hellenic culture and people from antiquity to the present. HMCC is currently in the first phase of its capital campaign and planning to move into a new 40,000 square-foot facility in 2008.
HMCC is seeking a full-time Resident Curator/Manager of Collections to oversee the daily operations of its exhibitions, archives and to oversee collection-related activities.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development, planning and exhibitions, including exhibit maintenance and planning for the permanent exhibitions for the museum's new permanent facility.
- Work with the Exhibitions Committee on the development of new exhibitions.
- Collaborate with invited Guest Curators on exhibitions.
- Plan and oversee collection-related activities.
- Develop and/or revise policies and best practices for the HMCC archives.
- Contribute to the development of exhibition related educational programs.
- Recruit, train and supervise part-time archives staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Catalog artifacts, photographs, documents, books, and audio/visual recordings.
- Work with Museum's Executive Director and Museum Board members for outreach to potential collection donors.
- Serve as media spokesperson regarding collections-related issues and activities.
- Grant research.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in either Art History, Cultural History, Ethnic Studies, Modern or Ancient Greek Studies, Museum Studies or other related fields.
- Museum and/or gallery experience.
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Masters degree or higher.
- Excellent English writing skills; fluency and literacy in modern Greek a plus.
- Knowledge of exhibition development, preservation and conservation, and collection development.
- Experience with PastPerfect museum software a plus.
Special consideration will be given to individuals with Greek literacy and experience working with museum collections. The ideal candidate is able to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment, and has excellent organizational skills. The position becomes available in October 2006.
